The Gospels call us to peace making in the world.
On the fourth Friday of each month (and every Friday during Advent and Lent) we meet outside the main gates of Lockheed-Martin corporation to pray for peace. We are aware that without ever being deployed, the weapons produced there kill by diverting billions of dollars and our best minds from serving the needs of our community. When deployed, they terrorize the world and cause untold suffering to women, children, and men around the globe.
We meet at 7:15 a.m. at the front gates of Lockheed, or at 6:45 a.m. at Casa de Clara to carpool.
Santa CLara University ROTC
Catholic universities exist to serve the Gospel. Santa Clara University engages this core mission through various programs including Campus Ministry and the Ignitian Center.
Yet we believe SCU fundamentally betrays the Gospel by continuing to sponsor military training through its ROTC program.
Jesus’ message is clear: Love your enemies; do good to those who persecute you. In contrast, ROTC teaches students to kill our enemies.
We call on the Board of Trustees, the Society of Jesus, and all members of the SCU community to follow the example of the nonviolent Jesus and remove ROTC from Santa Clara University.
